The Ark’s Floating Support Service
Launched in April 2005, The Ark’s Floating Support workers, work alongside The Ark’s team of residential workers and the Connexions PA by providing an effective, high quality service to vulnerable tenants, preventing tenancy breakdown and promoting independent living and social inclusion. Clients include both those resident in properties managed by The Ark Charity and those, normally aged under 21, who may be tenants of Milton Keynes Council, local housing associations or private landlords. Referrals to the service may be made by the above organisations and by other organisations operating in the field of youth accommodation and support and through self referrals.
They also work with individual clients, helping them achieve their aspirations through implementation of assessments and support planning procedures.
The responsibilities of the Floating Support Service lay in identifying clients individual support needs through consultation and agreement with the client. This involves devising, developing and implementing suitable support plans and monitoring these and to ensure that objectives are fully met.
This also involves keeping up to date with issues relating to housing and support, welfare benefits and other relevant information.
The service includes help with:
- Assessing local community services and resources, dealing with utilities providers, budgeting skills, debt information, basic household maintenance, nutrition, food hygiene, basic cookery skills and help with assessing benefits and indentifying requirements for furniture
- Providing clients with information on various aspects of health and safety. This includes drug and alcohol information, information on sexual health, registration with local GP and dental services and support with any specific health related problems ensuring that clients are referred to specialist services where appropriate.
