Our Work
From small and informal beginnings in 1976, The Ark Charity has grown to become a substantial provider of a variety of accommodation and support services to vulnerable and homeless young people in the Milton Keynes area.
In 1999, we opened move on accommodation comprising 4 self-contained flats at Two Mile Ash which enabled us to ensure that a number of Ark House residents could receive transitional support on the path to independent living.
Two phases of expansion have provided further accommodation. Firstly, the capacity of Ark House was increased in 2004 following donations received as a result of The Ark being selected as The Mayor’s Charity 2002-03. Following a highly successful appeal in 2003-2004, we were able to raise sufficient funds to part pay for the purchase of a property for conversion into 5 bed-sits in New Bradwell. Overall these expansion programmes have enabled us to cater for an increase from 6 to 16 young people at any one time.
But the Ark’s expansion has not been limited to the provision of accommodation. A lottery-funded Outreach Service has been developed into a Floating Support Service funded through the government’s Supporting People programme. This provides extensive tenancy support services to residents of our properties and to others in need of these facilities.
This website will also tell you more about these services and how The Ark has developed further through provision of The Youth Housing Network
